CEMAFON Member Companies Report On Market Share

While the exports of the six CEMAFON countries, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, followed the global trend with an increase in deliveries by 30% in 2011, they registered a drop of 21% in 2012 vs. the previous year. At 261 million euros, exports were back at the precrisis level of 2008, but this was not enough to maintain the 34% market share of that time. The global market share of the European high pressure diecutting machine industry currently is 28%.

CEMAFON member countries Italy, the United Kingdom and Germany are among the 10 largest suppliers of high pressure and low pressure diecasting machines in the world. Italy was at the top again in 2012, as the second biggest export nation in the world after Japan. In 2012, deliveries from France, the eleventh largest export country, recorded an increase of more than one third.

Over the past two years, the CEMAFON member countries have almost doubled their exports to the EU28. Deliveries to the countries in Latin America also almost doubled. In the other regions, there was a downward trend in 2012.

In addition, Japan and the U.S. increased their export ratios. Japanese exports increased by almost 20%. Japanese manufacturers increased their exports to Asia (China, India, Thailand) and the Americas (Brazil, Mexico, China). Metalcasting equipment manufacturers from the U.S. more than doubled their exports with high growth rates of shipments to China, Canada and Oman.

The trend in the world regions is currently reflected in the area of the construction of high pressure and gravity diecasting machines. There are three major manufacturing centers: Asia, Europe and America. Asia has been the largest manufacturing region in machine and plant construction since 2009. Europe accounts for almost one third of the global sales of machines, with Germany, Italy, the U.K. and France as the main production locations. However, European foundry machine manufacturers are now also represented in Asia and other regions with extensive local production. After America’s share declined for several successive years, it has stabilized again since 2010.

CEMAFON (The European foundry Equipment suppliers Association) members are the national European associations representing all major manufacturers for the industry in Europe. With the CAEF (The European Foundry Association), it organizes the International Foundry Forum, IFF, which will take place in Venice, Italy, in September 2014.
