  • Fiat’s subsidiary Iveco is important customer of ZF in South America
  • South American commercial vehicle business constitutes a big growth market for ZF

At the end of April, the Fiat Group organized in Rio de Janeiro the “Fiat Qualitas 2012” award for their best suppliers in South America. The different Fiat brands – Fiat Passenger Cars, Chrysler, Iveco, Fiat Industrial, and Case New Holland – awarded prizes in five categories to their suppliers for their good performance. The ZF Commercial Vehicle Technology Division won the award in the “Metallic Components” category for its light, medium and heavy truck transmissions. Also the dampers from Argentina won an award.

Every year, the Fiat Group awards a prize, the “Fiat Qualitas Award”, to its suppliers in South America in the “Chemicals”, “Metallic Components”, “Mechanics”, “Electrics”, “Logistics and Indirect Material” categories. In 2012, ZF Friedrichshafen AG won even two awards: The jury voted in favor of the commercial vehicle transmissions as well as the dampers/shock absorbers produced by the automotive supplier company.

“The award is an important acknowledgement for us”, emphasizes Rolf Lutz, Member of the Board of Management of ZF Friedrichshafen AG and responsible for the Commercial Vehicle Technology Division and the Region of South America: “The Fiat Group is one of our main customer in South America; we delivertransmissions for the completely re-designed truck portfolio of Iveco.”

In 2011, the ZF location of Sorocaba delivered more than 10.000 manual transmissions from the Ecosplit, Ecomid, and Ecolite model ranges to Iveco in South America. The transmission families cover a wide torque range and are therefore applied in the complete commercial vehicle portfolio of Fiat’s subsidiary.

In South America, ZF has four locations in Brazil and one in Argentina. In 2011, the Group achieved a total sales volume of EUR 880 million in the region, out of which 546 million amounted to the commercial vehicle business. Together with the Region of Asia-Pacific, South America has become the biggest growth market for the ZF Group in the past years.
